What Are The Pros And Cons Of Carpet Cleaning.

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Depending how you look at it there can be many pros and cons to cleaning your carpets. Lets go and check out a few points when it comes to carpet cleaning.

Professional cleaning:

1. If you do not want to own a cleaner of your own, calling someone in is much easier. You can just leave it to the people that know how to do it the best.

2. You’re hiring a professional. This is someone that knows what they are doing and have experience.

3. They are familiar with allergies and dust and different allergens so they are able to use different solvents and cleaning agents.

The down low of the pros:

1. You will be asked to leave for the time that they are estimated to be there.

2. You can not normally leave the furniture where you have it. You have to change the location.

3. You are taking a chance your furniture might get damaged.

4. It can be a big financial cost to have someone clean your carpets. It can go by room size.

Home carpet cleaning:

1. You can do it whenever you want.

2. You can clean your carpets anytime you wish without the high cost of someone coming to your home.

3. You can chose to clean the whole carpet or just little pieces.

The downside of doing it your yourself:

1. Renting and purchasing a cleaner can be expensive.

2. The big guys use industrial cleaners that can get spots better and dig deeper into the fibers of the carpet. They are able to use a more powerful machine that we can not buy

3. More then likely the carpet is still going to be really wet when you are finished.

4. Powerful stains might fade but not come out all the way.

If you are the do it yourself kind of gal/guy then cleaning your carpet yourself is just up your alley. A lot of people just do not have the time or energy and feel it is easier to leave home and see a dirty carpet and come back to a nice clean carpet. This way they can spend their day off doing something that they enjoy.

It is all up to you and your preference. I don’t like paying people to do the work that I can do myself and my cleaner has already paid for itself. I like being home when someone is there to do work. The cost of a cleaner can be just as much as buying your own machine. The difference is when you pay that cost it is only once for a pro to come out. If you pay that for a cleaner you can use it time and time again and get years of cleaning out of it.

What You Want In A Good Carpet Cleaning Service.

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

When you want to hire anyone to come into your home and preform a service, you want to know that they are honest and will do a good job. This applies to carpet cleaning services that you want to have done also. Your home is your biggest investment and you have a right to screen the company.

The first thing to do is to ask your friends and relatives for a referral. If someone you know was happy with the way a company cleaned their carpets, then chances are, they are a good service and you can use them with less concern than a company you do not know about.

Some times, you may not get the referral that you are looking for with this method. Now it is time to do a little creative leg work to find the right company or service provider.

By going to the Better Business Bureau web site, you can see if there are any complaints filed against the company that you are thinking of hiring. You will be able to check if there are complaints on that particular company and what they are. You may have to do quite a bit of looking to find a company with no complaints.

After you complete that work and you find a company that seems good you then need to contact the company and ask them some questions to make sure that they are a good company.

You want to know if they are “bonded and insured.” This is very important to find out. This will protect you and your house if there is any kind of problem or trouble. You can have them fax, or send you an e-mail of proof that they are covered. Ask them to send proof with the tech if you hire them, you should get no problems with this or you should look some place else.

The next question is asking them if they belong and are certified by the llCRC. This is a non-profit organization that trains and certifies companies and technicians that want to be a step above the norm in the carpet cleaning business. These technicians have been certified and trained in the complete science of cleaning.

Now you may check customer testimonials, all carpet cleaning companies seem to have the testimonials on their web site. If you want to be very cautious, see if they will let you contact one of them.

Once you have gathered this information to your satisfaction, you most likely have a company that will do a good job at cleaning your carpets.

How to Remove Cat Urine From Carpet

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Nothing can ruin a carpet quite like cat urine.  If not treated quickly and correctly, your carpet can become your cat’s new permanent litter box.  If your cat has an accident on the carpet the faster you can treat it, the better.

If the urine is fresh and not yet dry, liberally cover the affected area with regular cornstarch.  If the urine has dried already, simply wet the area down using lukewarm water and let it sit for a few minutes before applying the cornstarch.  Next, press the cornstarch into the carpet using your hand or the bottom of a Tupperware container.  The cornstarch will begin to pull the urine out of the carpet.

Let the cornstarch sit for an hour or so, or until it turns yellow and crusty.  When it hardens, you can vacuum up the cornstarch.  You will then want to treat the carpet with an odor absorbing carpet deodorizing powder.  It’s important to keep the cat away from the area while you are treating it.  The smell of urine could entice cat to repeat the offense.

You can repeat this process if you have an extra stubborn stain, or if you can’t get rid of the odor on the first try.

Can you still smell cat urine but don’t know where it’s coming from? Cat urine glows when viewed under a black light.  A small investment in a black light can save you hours of frustration trying to locate hiding cat urine, and it could save you money on professional carpet cleaning or carpet replacement.
